Common Chesapeake, VA Water Problems

Water quality can vary from one Chesapeake property to the next, from city-treated water to private wells. Hard Water & Scale Buildup

Hard water is one of the most common water problems, including in Chesapeake and throughout Virginia. Local water reports show municipal water ranging from soft to moderately hard, which means calcium and magnesium can contribute to spotting, soap inefficiency and scale buildup over time.

Signs of Hard Water Include:

  • White spots or mineral deposits on glassware, faucets and fixtures
  • Dingy, faded clothing
  • Soap and detergent that won’t lather properly
  • Reduced efficiency and lifespan of appliances

With an ion exchange water softener, you can improve skin and hair health while protecting water-using appliances from scale. See what’s in your water today with a free expert assessment from Kinetico.

Chlorine Taste, Odor & Disinfection Byproducts

Chesapeake’s municipal water receives disinfection before it reaches your tap. This can leave behind an unpleasant chlorine taste or odor and create harmful, endocrine-disrupting disinfection byproducts (DBPs) such as chloroform, TTHMs and HAA5.

Although these compounds remain within EPA limits, some water in Chesapeake contains DBPs as much as 300 times higher than health-based guidelines.

Reduce chlorine taste and odor with whole-home chemical filtration, with reverse osmosis purification to help eliminate more complex contaminants at the tap.

Well Water, Sediment & Coastal Groundwater Issues

For private or shared wells, water quality can be more variable from one property to the next. In coastal Virginia, groundwater may carry sediment, sulfur bacteria, iron, manganese and salt-related issues that impact overall water quality.

The right treatment starts with understanding what’s in your water. Based on test results, treatment may include sediment filtration, specialty solutions for more complex contaminants and reverse osmosis for drinking water purification.

PFAS Forever Chemicals

In recent years, perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including Gen X, have been revealed to be highly dangerous water contaminants. Kinetico is familiar with these pollutants and uses a highly effective process recognized by the State of North Carolina, The Water Quality Association and the Centers for Disease Control to combat them.

Reverse osmosis is the best way to deal with PFAS. Our K5 Drinking Water Station® uses several patented steps to address these pollutants and make your water safer and more purified.
